Job vs career vs training. It can be challenging to know which one is right for you, which one fits with your values and beliefs, and which one will ultimately lead you to live your best life!

This section is about starting from the start and working your way up.

It’s an opportunity to list the type of career you’d like to have or the type of company or business you’d like to work for and what sort of things you need to do to make that happen.

It may include listing specific types of training and whether it is long term (like TAFE or university study) or short-course training.

You could also include things like work experience, essential roles in a company or business, volunteer work, positions in other similar companies or businesses. List everything you can think of that you would need to do or would help you in getting to your end goal. Try and be as detailed as you can.

How you can use this knowledge:

Get clear

Know the direction you want to go and how to get there.

Save time

Getting clarity means you can focus on the most important things. No more wasting time on things that don’t align with your goals.

Make better decisions

The best choices for you will be a lot clearer from now on.

We’ve given you enough space to write down the details for 3 different employers, but if you have more than three, you can write them down on a piece of paper or type them on your computer.

It’s time to discover your job, career or calling.

This is the thing that makes you jump out of bed every day. When you discover this, you will have a clear direction and understanding of what it is that you want to do with your life.

This section will help you identify the things you love to do and reflect on why you like to do them. How do these activities make you feel? Why are they important to you? What values do they meet? Once you’ve listed these activities, you need to be able to link them to different types of jobs that they could be performed in.

You might find this easy to do or it might take a bit of time to think through, but it will be useful in helping you find your job, career or calling.

How you can use this knowledge:

Understand yourself

The more you know about yourself, the easier it will be to find that thing that ignites the fire in you.

Get real

Have a realistic view of what you're good at, and what you think you’re worth.

Take charge

Be in charge of the direction your life is taking.

Push yourself

Have the drive to go further and do more to achieve your goals.

In the following questions, you will be identifying the things you love to do.

To discover these things, think about the activities you enjoy or tasks you can complete quickly and find easy. You may even find them fun or really rewarding. You’ll notice when you talk about these things or activities, you’ll feel energized just by talking about them. Once you have explored the things you love to do, you will move into identifying your dream job, career or calling.

Just follow your passion they say, but what if you don’t know what you’re passionate about?

The secret to having an awesome career is matching your professional personality type with the things that are important to you and the things you love to do. The My Job Outlook Quiz connects all these things together. The quiz takes into account all the things that are really important you – your skills, strengths, interests and desires, and gives you a clear career pathway that you can start following right away.

It’s important that you answer the questions openly and honestly (it will be more accurate that way). If you see more than one answer that stands out to you (which you probably will), choose the one you noticed first. Your mind is an incredibly intuitive tool and will usually point you in the right direction.
